What it does

Pulse-width modulated TCC apply solenoid. Allows progressive converter clutch engagement instead of on/off.

Fitment

1996-2008 GM trucks, SUVs, cars with 4L60E electronic lockup.

Common failure symptoms

P0742, P1870, converter shudder under load, no smooth lockup engagement, surging at highway cruise

Electrical specs

Resistance 10-15 ohms.
PWM duty cycle controlled by PCM.
Critical for shudder-free lockup.

Run a resistance check before condemning the solenoid. Bad wiring, corroded harness pins, or a failing PCM driver can cause identical symptoms.

Replacement procedure

Drop pan and filter
PWM TCC sits next to the regular TCC solenoid on the valve body
Disconnect 2-pin harness
Remove retaining bolt
Pull straight out
Lubricate O-ring with fresh ATF
Torque to 8 ft-lbs
Always pair with TCC regulator valve inspection — if PWM TCC failed, check the valve bore for wear
