4L60E speed sensors fail in pairs. If you get a P0716/P0717 (ISS) or P0720/P0722 (OSS), replace BOTH sensors as a matched pair - the other one is right behind. 30 min job, no pan drop required.

Step-by-Step
- 1Locate input speed sensor (ISS) on driver side of the case, near the converter end. 2-pin connector.
- 2Locate output speed sensor (OSS) at the extension housing, top rear of the transmission. 2-pin connector.
- 3Unplug both sensor connectors. Inspect for corrosion - replace pigtail (PN PT1396) if green/blue corrosion.
- 4Use a 13mm or 14mm socket (varies by year) to unscrew the ISS sensor. It comes straight out with a small drip of fluid (~1-2 oz).
- 5Same procedure for OSS - 13mm or 14mm socket, unscrew, remove.
- 6Apply small amount of ATF to new sensor o-rings.
- 7Install new sensors hand-tight + 1/4 turn with socket. Do NOT overtorque - you will crack the case.
- 8Reconnect both connectors. Verify lock-in.
- 9Top off any lost fluid (usually < 4 oz total).
- 10Clear codes. Test drive. P0716/P0720 should not return.
If codes return after sensor replacement, inspect the harness back to the TCM - rodent damage and chafe-through are common on older 4L60E trucks.
