01M Transmission Valve Body for VW Jetta Golf Beetle

This is the complete hydraulic valve body for the Volkswagen 01M four-speed automatic, the transmission used behind the 2.0L gas and 1.9L TDI engines in Mk4 Jetta, Golf and New Beetle. It carries VW part number 01M325283A and supersedes/interchanges with 096927435A, 01M325105F and 01M325039F. If your original casting is stamped with any of those numbers, this drops straight in.

The 01M is known for wearing its valve bores and cooking the solenoid pack, and the symptoms are consistent: flare between 2nd and 3rd, a hard 1-2 bang, no 3rd or 4th at all, or the transmission dropping into limp with pressure-control and shift-solenoid codes stored. Once the bores in the original casting are worn oval, no amount of fluid or filter work brings the shifts back - the valve body has to come off. This unit ships assembled with the solenoids and separator plate in place so you are replacing the whole hydraulic circuit rather than chasing one valve at a time.

Bench work is straightforward: drain, drop the pan, unplug the internal harness connector, pull the filter, and back out the valve body bolts working from the outside in so the casting comes down flat and the check balls stay put. Note the bolt lengths as they come out - they are not all the same on the 01M. Set the new body up on the case dowels, torque the bolts evenly in a cross pattern, reconnect the harness, and fit a new filter and pan gasket. Fill with G 052 162 A2 spec ATF through the side check plug at the correct fluid temperature, not by the old dipstick method - the 01M is temperature-fill and overfilling it will foam the fluid.
