4F27E Transmission Master Rebuild Kit for Ford Focus

Master overhaul kit for the Ford 4F27E four-speed automatic, the same unit Mazda builds as the FN4A-EL. Work it the usual way: strip the unit, air-check every circuit before you pull the drums apart, and measure clutch clearance as you stack each pack rather than assuming the kit plate count matches what came out. The 4F27E is sensitive to clearance in the forward and direct packs, and it is worth selecting a steel or pressure plate to land in spec instead of buttoning it up loose. Soak the frictions in fresh ATF before assembly. The kit weighs 9.19 lb and ships in a 19.5 x 16 x 6 in box.

The 4F27E typically comes in with a burnt forward clutch, a delayed or missing engagement into drive, or a 2-3 flare after the pack wears past clearance. On higher-mileage Focus and Mazda3 units the direct drum and the pump bushing go together, so if the fluid came out dark and smelling burnt, plan on inspecting the pump and the drum hub before you order the rest of the parts.
