Mazda B2200 5-Speed Manual Transmission Bearing and Synchro Kit

This is the USA Standard Gear ZMBK132LWS overhaul kit for the rear-wheel-drive Mazda 5-speed manual used from 1981 to 1993 in the B2000 and B2200 pickups and the RX-7. It is the version for boxes with the double-ball front bearing, so check which front bearing your case uses before you order. The kit puts the wear parts for a full teardown in one box: the shaft ball bearings, a full set of brass synchro rings, the front and rear seals and a case gasket.

On these boxes the usual complaints are grinding going into second and third, a gear that pops out under decel, and a growl in neutral with the clutch out that goes quiet when you push the pedal in. Grinding on a clean, fast shift points at worn synchro rings. The neutral growl is a bearing on the input or countershaft. Once the case is split to fix either one, it makes sense to replace every bearing and ring at the same time instead of opening it twice.

On the bench, press the bearings off each shaft and keep the old rings in order next to their gears. Before a new ring goes on, set it on its cone and check the gap between the ring and the gear dog teeth; if the gap on the old gear cone is close to zero with a new ring, the cone itself is worn. Press the new bearings on the inner race only, soak the rings in gear oil before assembly, and put the new seals in dry with a light film of oil on the lip. Fill with the gear oil or manual transmission fluid Mazda specifies for your year.

This kit covers the bearings, rings and seals only. Gears, shift forks, sliders and hubs are not included, so inspect those for chipped teeth and worn fork pads while the box is apart.
