Red Line D4 Synthetic Dexron III ATF Case of 12 Quarts

Red Line 30504 D4 is the synthetic replacement for the older high-viscosity ATF specs: Dexron II, Dexron III, Mercon and Mercon V. That is the fluid a 4L60E, 4L80E, 700R4, AOD, 4R70W, E4OD or 5R110W was built around, and it is also what Toyota T-III and T-IV, Honda ATF-Z1, Nissan Matic D/J/K, Mitsubishi SP-II and SP-III, and Mazda ATF M-V units were filled with from the factory.

It also works as a manual transmission fluid in boxes that spec ATF: Tremec T-5, T-45 and T-56, and a number of late-model BMW manuals. It carries a GL-4 level of gear protection without the reactive sulfur found in GL-5 oils, so it will not attack brass synchro rings the way a GL-5 hypoid oil can.

Twelve quarts covers a real fill, not a top-off. A 4L60E pan drop takes about 5 quarts, a full rebuild fill with a dry converter and cooler is 11 to 12, and a 4L80E runs 13 or so. If you are replacing fluid in a unit that ran hot and left the pan magnet loaded, D4 is the one to put back in: it holds viscosity where a worn Dexron III fluid has already sheared down and started letting the pump cavitate at temperature.
