Toyota 9.5-Inch Land Cruiser Differential Bearing Kit

The Toyota 9.5-inch full-floating rear end under an FJ40, FJ55, FJ60 or FJ62 will run a long time on clean gear oil, but once it howls on decel or the pinion seal starts weeping onto the driveshaft yoke, the bearings are finished and the third member has to come apart. This is the Motive Gear R11RLC bearing kit for that housing, covering 1975 through 1990 Land Cruisers with the 9.5-inch differential. It replaces the older BK TLC part number.

In the box: Koyo tapered carrier bearings, front and rear pinion bearings, and pilot bearing where the application uses one, plus a pinion seal, crush sleeve, pinion nut, preload shim pack, thread-locking compound, cover gasket or RTV, and a tube of marking compound with a brush. It is a bearing and setup kit, not a gear set - reuse your existing ring and pinion if the teeth are clean, or pair the kit with a new gear set when you regear for larger tires.

Bench sequence is the usual one. Press the old races out, drive the new cups in square and fully seated, set pinion depth with the shim pack, crush the new sleeve while watching rotating torque, then set carrier bearing preload and check backlash. Paint the ring gear with the marking compound and read the pattern on both drive and coast before the cover goes back on. A pattern riding the toe or climbing the heel means pull it apart and move the pinion shim - that check is what keeps a fresh set of bearings from getting chewed up in the first few thousand miles.
