Ford 8.8 Differential Master Bearing & Seal Rebuild Kit

Complete master overhaul kit for the Ford 8.8-inch rear differential, USA Standard Gear part number ZK F8.8. It carries Koyo carrier and pinion bearings and races, the pinion seal, ring gear bolts, a pinion nut, a crush sleeve, a full shim kit, thread locker, and marking compound with a brush.

Fits the 8.8-inch axle used across the 2009-and-down Ford and Lincoln lineup: F-150, Explorer, Ranger, Mustang, Crown Victoria, Bronco, and the Lincoln models that run the 8.8 ring gear. This is the differential setup kit, so it works whether you are freshening a worn stock axle or installing a new ring and pinion during a regear.

On the bench you press the old bearings off the carrier and pinion, drive in the new Koyo bearings and races, then use the shim stack to dial in pinion depth and carrier preload while reading the gear pattern with the included marking compound. The kit stacks thicker shims with thin .006 in shims between them, which protects the thin shims when you drive them home, so you can zero in preload in a few tries. A fresh crush sleeve and pinion nut set the correct pinion bearing preload on reassembly.

A tired 8.8 that howls under acceleration, whines on coast, or weeps at the pinion seal is almost always running worn bearings and a hardened seal, and doing the full set at once is what keeps the noise from coming back. Note this is a differential setup kit and does not include axle shaft bearings or axle seals, so order those separately if you are also servicing the axle tubes.
