ZF 5HP19 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit with Filter

Master overhaul kit for the ZF 5HP19, the longitudinal five-speed automatic BMW built into the E46 and E39 chassis (BMW calls it the A5S 325Z, and the same family is sold as the 01V in Audi applications). The kit covers a full teardown rebuild: friction plates, steel plates, the rubber and metal-clad seals, the pan gasket and the internal filter, all in one box so you are not chasing individual seal numbers halfway through the build.

Confirmed fitment is 2001-2007 BMW 330i 3.0L, 2006-2007 BMW 323i 2.5L, 2001-2006 BMW 325Ci and 330Ci 2.5L/3.0L, 2001-2003 BMW 525i 2.5L, 2001-2002 BMW 325i 2.5L and 2000-2001 BMW 323i 2.5L. Manufacturer part number is MATT-GN03636. The 5HP19 was fitted alongside the 5HP18 and the later 5HP19FL, and the internals are not interchangeable across those variants, so read the tag on the case or check the VIN before you order.

On the bench this is the kit you open once the case is split. Old frictions come out of each clutch pack, the drums get cleaned and measured, then the new frictions are soaked in ATF before they go back in, stacked against the new steels to the clearance the pack calls for. Every seal in the kit is replaced while the unit is apart, including the pump and drum seals that are unreachable once it is bolted back together. The filter and pan gasket go on last, before the pan.

The failures this addresses are the ones that put a 5HP19 on the bench in the first place: slipping or flaring on upshifts as the clutch frictions wear down, delayed or harsh engagement into drive when the hardened seals stop holding apply pressure, and fluid leaks past the tired pan gasket. Rebuilding with worn seals left in place is the usual reason a unit comes back, which is why the kit renews all of them at once rather than the frictions alone. Sold with a 12-month limited warranty; installation is a full transmission rebuild and belongs to someone who has done one.
