01M Transmission Service Kit for VW Eurovan 2.8L V6

A complete fluid and filter service kit for the 01M four-speed automatic in the Volkswagen Eurovan 2.8L V6, 1997 through 2003. The kit covers the parts you need in one box: five 1-liter bottles of automatic transmission fluid to OE spec G052162A2 (the Esso LT71141 spec), one transmission filter with its seal, one pan gasket with the metal spacers for the 5-bolt pan, and one transmission filler cap plug. The 01M is sensitive to the wrong fluid and to old fluid. Dexron or a generic multi-vehicle ATF in place of LT71141-spec fluid shows up as flare on the 1-2 shift, shudder at light throttle lockup, and eventually burnt clutch material in the pan. Service intervals on these vans get ignored because there is no dipstick, so the filter is often the original one, loaded and restricting flow to the pump.

On the bench the job is straightforward: drop the pan, replace the filter and its seal, clean the pan and magnet, set the new gasket with its metal spacers so the pan bolts torque against the spacers instead of crushing the gasket, then refill through the side fill plug. Bring the fluid up to temperature, leave the level tube open with the engine running, and let the excess run out until it drips rather than streams, which is what sets the level on a 01M. Five liters covers a pan-drop service; a torque converter flush takes more than what is in this kit.
