A 16-row stacked-plate cooler kit with two 10AN braided lines that pulls heat out of ATF on a transmission running hot under tow or traffic load.
A compact 16-row stacked-plate auxiliary cooler sold as a kit, not a bare core. The aluminum core holds roughly 0.35 liters and uses female 10AN (AN-10) ports on both ends. In the box with it are two AN10 braided hoses (one 3.94 ft, one 3.28 ft), a 3/4 in mounting nut adapter, an M20 x 1.5 mounting nut adapter, an oil filter sandwich adapter and a hose clamp. Shipping weight is 6.57 lb in a 7.5 x 7.5 x 13.8 in box.
Heat is what kills automatic transmission fluid. Tow a trailer, sit in summer traffic, run taller tires, or put a fresh rebuild behind a converter that slips and fluid temperature climbs, the fluid oxidizes, and the clutches go next. An auxiliary cooler plumbed into the cooler return line and mounted where it actually sees air, ahead of the radiator or A/C condenser, brings temps down and holds them there instead of letting the radiator's built-in cooler do all the work.
This is a universal core, not a bolt-in for one gearbox, so it goes behind a GM 4L60E, 4L80E, 700R4 or 6L80, a Ford E4OD, 4R100 or 4R70W, a Chrysler 47RE, or any other automatic you have room to mount it for. Note that the sandwich adapter included in the kit is for engine-oil plumbing; to tie the cooler into transmission lines you use AN-10 to hose barb or inverted flare adapters sized to your factory lines, which are not part of the kit. Measure the mounting space and your line size before you order fittings. The smaller 16-row core is the one to pick when a 25 or 30-row will not fit in front of the condenser.
