Replaces the failure-prone governor pressure solenoid on Dodge 46RE, 47RE and 48RE units with a GM EPC solenoid to cure 2nd-gear starts.
This is a solenoid block conversion for the Chrysler A518/A618 transmission family the 46RE, 47RE and 48RE. It replaces the factory governor pressure solenoid and transducer arrangement with a GM-style EPC (electronic pressure control) solenoid mounted on a machined manifold. It fits 1996-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks running the 5.9L Cummins, and also covers 1994-up A500/42RE and 1996-up A518 applications.
The stock governor pressure solenoid is the weak link on these units. When it drifts or sticks you get 2nd-gear starts, flared or hunting shifts, and line pressure that wanders. Switching to a GM EPC solenoid gives cleaner, more repeatable electronic pressure control, so the transmission holds pressure and shifts the same way cold or hot.
Trucks that tow heavy, sled pull, or see drag use benefit most: the GM solenoid handles more baseline pressure and outlasts the factory part, and it lets you run higher line pressure for firmer clutch apply without warping or leaking at the manifold.
Installation is straightforward with the pan dropped, on the bench or in the truck. The manifold (part number W1422FX) comes ready to bolt in. Confirm your unit is a 46RE, 47RE or 48RE with the governor pressure style valve body before ordering, since that is the system this kit replaces.
