30 Ton Hydraulic Shop Press Support Block and Plate Kit

This is a 30 ton support block and plate kit for an H-frame hydraulic shop press. It is the fixturing you bolt down on the press bed so the part you are pushing on sits square and stays put: two heavy steel support plates, a set of adjustable threaded support columns, support bars, locator plates and the bolts, nuts and washers to lock it all together. The kit weighs about 17.6 pounds and ships in an 11.97 by 10.55 by 5.39 inch box, model number B1091796. It is rated for presses up to 30 tons, which covers the 6, 12 and 20 ton H-frames most home and independent shops run.

On a transmission bench the problem is almost never press force, it is holding the part square while you make that force. Pushing a bearing off an input shaft, a bushing out of a pump body, a hub off a drum, or a new race into a case bore, and the part rocks on the two press bars because nothing under it is flat and level. The 3-point contact design here fixes that: you set the columns to the height and spread the part needs, drop the locator plates against it, and the load goes straight down the axis instead of cocking the part sideways. That is the difference between a bushing that walks out clean and a bore you just galled.

The adjustable columns thread into multiple positions on the plates, so the same kit handles a small 4L60E sun shell hub, a 4L80E center support, a 68RFE drum, and wheel bearing and hub work when the press is not doing transmission duty. Set the columns just wide enough to clear the part being pushed through, snug the nuts, and check that all three contact points are actually touching before you pump the ram. Everything is steel and the plates take the full press load flat, so nothing deflects and throws your alignment mid-push.

Note that this is press fixturing, not the press itself and not a bearing driver set. You still need an H-frame press and a driver or adapter to push on. What this kit removes is the stack of scrap steel and blocks of wood most people improvise with under the part.
