Lisle 39850 Transmission and Fuel Line Disconnect Set

The Lisle 39850 Master Plus Disconnect Set is the box you grab when a line has to come off and you do not want to cut the fitting. It carries the disconnect tools Lisle sells individually -- fuel line quick-connect releases, Ford spring-lock coupling cages, air conditioning line couplers, and the split collars for transmission oil cooler line fittings -- laid out in one molded case so you are not hunting through three drawers with the vehicle on the lift.

The transmission side is the reason it lives in a trans shop. Cooler lines on GM 4L60E and 4L80E trucks, Ford 4R100, 5R110W and 6R80 units, and most late Chrysler cases use a plastic-cage quick connect at the radiator or the case fitting. The correct collar slides over the line, squares up against the shoulder, and pushes the retaining fingers open so the line pulls straight out. Pry at one of those with a screwdriver and you either split the cage or score the sealing surface on the tube, and then you are chasing a cooler line leak that was not there when you started. Same story with Ford spring-lock couplings -- the caged tool is the only thing that opens the garter spring cleanly.

Working procedure is the same on all of them: clean the fitting first so grit does not get dragged into the seal, slide the correct size tool over the line and seat it fully into the connector, then pull the line and the tool away from the fitting together in one motion. Nothing needs to be hammered. Every tool in the set is stamped with its size and the set stores in a 15 x 11 x 3 in molded case at about 3.3 lb total, so it stacks in a tool box drawer or rides in a service truck.
