Complete 1997-up GM 4L60E overhaul in one box: gaskets and seals plus friction plates, steel plates and pistons, so the clutch packs go back fresh.
A super master rebuild kit for the 1997-and-later GM 4L60E, Remco part number ARK-DK7700DXA-R. A super master is the step above an overhaul kit: on top of the gasket and seal set you get the friction plates, the steel plates and the pistons, so every clutch pack goes back together with new material instead of reused steels and old bonded pistons. It fits the 4L60E used behind GM V6 and V8 trucks, vans and SUVs such as the Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Express/Savana from 1997 on.
This is the kit for a unit that has already burned clutches: slipping on the 3-4 shift, no reverse, flare into third, or a pan full of friction material and black fluid. When a pack burns, the steels are usually heat-checked or blued and the piston seals have hardened, so reusing them is how a fresh rebuild comes back slipping a few thousand miles later. Buying frictions, steels and pistons together keeps the stack matched.
On the bench: tear the unit down, clean and inspect the case, pump, drums, sun shell and planetaries (the kit does not replace hard parts, so check the sun shell splines and the reaction and input carriers before committing). Soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, install the pistons with seal lube, and measure clutch clearance on each pack as you stack it. Install the new gaskets and seals throughout, then set end play before closing it up.
After the rebuild, flush or replace the cooler and cooler lines, fill with Dexron VI, and run a transmission adaptive relearn with a scan tool. Confirm your year before ordering: early 1993-1996 units differ in several parts, so this kit is listed for 1997 and later.
