A 4L30E that slips into 3rd and 4th, flares on the 2-3, or engages late when hot has usually worn its seals and burned the overdrive or forward clutches. Tear it down, replace every seal and gasket, inspect the drums and bushings, check clearances and refill with Dexron VI.
