Full overhaul kit for the Ford 4R75E and 4R70W: frictions, steels, intermediate band, filter, gaskets and seals for 2004-2014 trucks and vans.
This is a complete master rebuild kit for the Ford 4R75E four-speed automatic, and it interchanges across the same family - 4R70W, 4R70E and 4R75W. Everything that comes out of the case during a soft-parts rebuild is in the box: the friction plate set, the steel plate set, the intermediate band, the pan filter and pan gasket, and the full gasket, lip seal, O-ring and sealing-ring set. Reference part number on the kit is ING-GN03830.
Fitment runs 2004 through 2014 on the wide-ratio Ford units: Crown Victoria 4.6L 2004-2011, E-150 4.6L and 5.4L 2004-2014, Expedition 4.6L and 5.4L 2004-2006, F-150 4.2L, 4.6L and 5.4L 2004-2010, F-250 4.6L 2004-2009, and Mustang 3.8L, 3.9L and 4.6L 2004-2010. If you are working a pre-2004 4R70W, check the pump seal type before ordering - the earlier units use a different front seal arrangement.
What usually drives a 4R75E into the shop is the forward and direct clutch packs cooking, along with a stretched or glazed intermediate band that shows up as a flare on the 1-2 shift. The overrun and coast clutches go with them once the fluid darkens. Replacing the frictions without replacing the band is the standard shortcut that brings the truck straight back.
On the bench: air-check every clutch circuit before you start reassembly, and look hard at the forward drum bushing and the pump bushing while the unit is open - neither is in this kit and both wear on high-mileage F-150s. Soak the new frictions in Mercon V for at least 20 minutes so they are saturated before the drums go together, and set each clutch pack clearance with a selective rather than assuming the stack is right. Replace every Teflon and rubber sealing ring you pull, including the ones on the direct drum, or the unit will come back with a soft 2-3.
