4T40E 4T45E Transmission Filter and Pan Gasket Kit

This is the pickup filter and pan gasket you install when you service a GM 4T40E or 4T45E automatic transaxle. It replaces OEM filter numbers 24203370, 24221762 and 8685185, and covers the four-speed front-drive units GM ran from 1995 up: Chevrolet Cavalier, Classic, Cobalt, HHR and Malibu, Pontiac Grand Am, G5, G6, Sunfire and Pursuit, Oldsmobile Alero and Cutlass, Saturn Ion, Aura, Vue and the L-series, plus the Daewoo Lanos.

The filter sits on the pump pickup at the bottom of the pan and screens clutch material, metal and varnish out of the fluid before it reaches the pump and valve body. When it clogs or the gasket weeps, these transaxles slip on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, flare when the fluid gets hot, or leak at the pan rail, so the filter and gasket go in every fluid and filter service. The kit includes the pickup filter and the pan gasket.

On the bench or on a lift the job is simple: drop the pan and let it drain, pull the old filter straight off the pickup, seat the new filter, scrape and clean the pan and the case sealing surface, lay in the gasket dry, and torque the pan bolts evenly in a crossing pattern. These pans use twelve bolts. Refill with a DEXRON-VI compatible fluid to the correct level with the transmission at temperature.
