68RFE Cast Aluminum Deep Transmission Pan 1061525 Cummins

This is a heavy-duty cast aluminum deep transmission pan for the 68RFE six-speed automatic in 2007.5-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks with the 6.7L Cummins diesel. It crosses to part number 1061525. It does not fit trucks with the Aisin AS69RC six-speed that Ram put behind the high-output Cummins, so confirm you have a 68RFE before you order.

The pan is cast from A356-T6 aluminum with a thick wall and external cooling fins. It comes with a reusable pan gasket and stainless steel bolts. The deeper sump holds more fluid than the stamped factory pan, which slows how fast the fluid heats up on a long pull with a trailer. The thick cast flange also stiffens the bottom of the case, where a thin steel pan can flex and weep.

Heat is what kills a 68RFE. Overheated fluid breaks down, glazes the clutches and sticks valves, and it shows up as slow or flared shifts, a converter that shudders, and fluid that smells burnt. A deep pan is one of the first things to add on a Cummins that tows, along with keeping the cooler clean and changing fluid and filters on schedule.

To install it, drain the fluid and drop the factory pan. Replace the filter while the pan is off, then clean the case sealing surface. Set the pan with the new gasket and run the bolts down in a crisscross pattern to 105 in-lb (about 8.75 ft-lb). Do not overtighten, because that crushes the gasket. Refill with ATF+4, then check the level hot with the engine running and the truck level, using the factory procedure. The deep pan takes more fluid than the stock refill amount.
