Automatic shift cable for 2001-2010 Dodge Dakota and 2001-2003 Durango 3.7L and 4.7L. Replaces 52110005AL and fixes a shifter that misses gears.
This is a replacement automatic transmission shift cable for 2001-2010 Dodge Dakota, 2011 Ram Dakota and 2001-2003 Dodge Durango with the 3.7L V6 or 4.7L V8. It replaces Mopar part number 52110005AL and the earlier 52110005AA, 52110005AF, 52110005AG, 52110005AI and 52110005AJ. The cable comes with the adjuster body, the bulkhead grommet and both end fittings, so it installs without cutting or modification.
The 2002-2003 Dakota, Durango and Ram with the 47RE use cable 52110004 instead, so compare the number on your old cable before you order.
These cables stretch, the plastic end bushings crack, and heat from the exhaust hardens the outer jacket. What you notice: the shifter moves but the truck stays in gear, the gear indicator is off by a position, the truck starts in gear or will not start in Park, or the lever feels loose. If the lever moves freely and nothing happens at the transmission, the cable end has usually popped off the manual lever or broken. Check that first before you buy.
To replace it, set the parking brake and put the shifter in Park. Unlock the adjuster and pop the cable end off the manual shift lever on the transmission, then release the cable from its bracket. Pull the console or steering column trim to reach the shifter end, disconnect it, and pull the cable through the floor. Route the new cable the same way and clip it away from the exhaust. Connect the shifter end, put the manual lever at the transmission all the way into Park, then snap it on and lock the adjuster. Check every gear against the indicator and confirm the engine only starts in Park and Neutral.
