Factory Hurst master rebuild kit for 1966-and-newer Competition/Plus four-speed shifters, for a stick that flops between gates or fights reverse.
This is the factory Hurst master rebuild kit, part number 3327303, for the Competition/Plus four-speed shifter. It fits Competition/Plus shifters from 1966 up, which covers the shifters that went behind Muncie M20, M21 and M22 boxes, Ford Toploaders and Mopar A833s in period, plus every Comp/Plus sold since. If the tag on the side of your shifter says Competition Plus and the mechanism is worn, this is the kit that resets it.
A Comp/Plus that has been on the road for thirty or forty years does not fail all at once. The pivot bushings and levers wear oval, the detent and return springs go soft, and the reverse interlock parts get lost or bent by a previous owner who fought the shifter instead of rebuilding it. What you feel in the car is a stick that flops between gates, a 1-2 shift that will hang up if you rush it, and reverse that either will not go in or goes in when you did not ask for it. That last one is what tears up a reverse idler and a gear set, so it is worth fixing before it costs you a transmission.
Bench work is straightforward. Pull the shifter off the mount, strip the levers off the body, and clean everything in solvent so you can actually see where the metal is worn. Replace the wear parts from the kit, reassemble the levers to the body, then set the stops and reinstall the alignment pin through the levers to hold neutral while you adjust the shift rods. Hurst includes detailed instructions in the box, and the pin-and-rod adjustment at the end is the step that determines whether it shifts crisp or vague, so do not skip it.
Shipping weight is 14.4 oz in a 6 x 6 x 4 in box. This is a rebuild kit for an existing shifter, not a complete shifter assembly, and it does not include the stick, knob or installation rods.
