NV4500 Front Input Bearing Retainer - Chevy 1992-1995

Motive Gear NV17507R front input bearing retainer for the Chevrolet/GMC NV4500 five-speed manual, 1992-1995 applications built to New Process Gear C17315 specifications. This is the snout that bolts to the front of the case, carries the input shaft bearing, and gives the throwout bearing its sleeve to slide on.

On a high-mileage NV4500 the retainer is one of the first parts to go. The throwout bearing wears a groove into the sleeve, the bore gets ovaled out, or the flange cracks around the bolt holes from a clutch that was ridden hard. Once that sleeve is grooved the release bearing hangs up and you get a clutch that drags, a pedal that stays down, or a chatter you can feel through the floor. Replacing the retainer is the fix - trying to run a new clutch and throwout bearing against a worn sleeve just chews up the new parts.

Swap it with the transmission out and the front bearing accessible. Pull the retainer bolts, remove the old retainer and its seal, inspect the input bearing while you are in there, then set the new retainer with a fresh input seal and gasket and torque the bolts evenly. Any time you have an NV4500 out for a clutch job or a bearing kit, check the sleeve for a groove - if you can catch a fingernail in it, replace the retainer while the trans is on the bench.
