Toyota 8.2 Rear Differential Master Kit for Factory Locker

This is a master overhaul kit, part T8.2-LOC, for the Toyota 8.2 inch rear differential with the factory electric locker. It is listed for the 2010-2019 Toyota 4Runner, 2010-2014 FJ Cruiser and 2010-2019 Lexus GX460 and cross-references Toyota bearing numbers 90366-35157, 90366-40132 and 90366-75001.

As pictured, the kit carries the inner and outer pinion bearings, both carrier bearings, crush sleeves, the pinion seal, pinion nut, ring gear bolts, sealant and gear marking compound with a brush. That covers the parts that wear out or cannot be reused when you tear down a whining or clunking 8.2, and it is what you need on the bench when setting up new gears.

Tear down in order: mark and pull the carrier, note the side adjuster or shim setup, then pull the pinion and keep the original depth shim. Press the new bearings on, install the races, and set pinion depth with the original shim as a starting point. Tighten the pinion nut gradually against the new crush sleeve until you reach preload, never backing it off. Install the carrier, set backlash and carrier preload, then paint the ring gear and read the contact pattern before closing it up with sealant and fresh gear oil.
