Full overhaul kit for the Ford 4R75W with Raybestos friction and steel clutch modules, molded pistons, bushing kit, washer kit and pan filter.
This is a master overhaul kit for the Ford 4R75W, and it also covers the 4R70E and 4R75E from 2004 up. Those are the updated versions of the 4R70W that went behind the 4.6L and 5.4L in the F-150, Expedition, Navigator, Explorer, Mountaineer, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Mustang. The kit is built by Whatever It Takes and the clutch content is Raybestos Powertrain: a complete friction clutch pack module and a matching steel clutch pack module, so you are not mixing new frictions against burnt steels.
Along with the clutches it carries molded pistons, a bushing kit, a washer kit, and the pan filter. Molded pistons matter on this family because the old bonded lip seals harden and start bypassing, which is what puts you in a slipping forward clutch or a soft 1-2 shift long before anything is actually worn out.
On the bench: tear the unit down and air check each circuit before you order anything else, because a 4R75W that came in slipping in third and fourth usually took out the direct clutch and glazed the steels. Measure clutch clearance on every pack as you stack it rather than trusting the count, set the overdrive and reverse band adjustment, and check end play before the pump goes back in. Replace the bushings that came in the kit even if the old ones measure, since a worn stator support bushing is what walks the pump and kills line pressure again.
Verify your unit is a 2004-up 4R75W, 4R70E or 4R75E before ordering. The earlier 4R70W and AODE use different clutch counts and this kit is not a substitute for those.
