9HP48 Valve Body Kit for Land Rover Evoque and Discovery

This is a complete replacement valve body assembly for the ZF 9HP48 nine-speed automatic, the transverse unit fitted to the 2013-2015 Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. The valve body is the hydraulic brain of that transmission: it routes line pressure to the clutch packs and to the dog-clutch actuator through a stack of spool valves and solenoids. When the bores wear or a solenoid drifts out of spec, pressure control goes away and the transmission starts misbehaving long before anything mechanical inside the case is actually damaged.

The 9HP48 has a well-earned reputation for shift complaints that trace back to the valve body rather than the gear train. The usual list: harsh or banging 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, a long flare between gears, delayed engagement when you drop it into drive cold, hunting and refusing to hold a gear, and dropping into limp with the transmission stuck in a single ratio. Scan-tool evidence normally shows up as solenoid performance codes and gear ratio incorrect codes rather than a hard mechanical fault. If the pan came out clean and the fluid is not burnt, the valve body is the part that fixes it.

On the bench the swap is straightforward but unforgiving of shortcuts. Drop the pan, pull the filter, disconnect the internal harness connectors, and unbolt the old valve body in the reverse of the torque sequence so the body does not warp coming off. Keep the manual valve engaged with the selector shaft pin when the new unit goes up, torque the bolts down evenly from the center outward, and set the new filter and pan gasket dry. The 9HP is fussy about fluid: refill only with the ZF 9HP-spec ATF and set the level at the specified fluid temperature through the fill plug, not by dipstick guesswork. Skipping the temperature-referenced fill is the single most common reason a good valve body still shifts badly afterward.

Body is cast aluminum alloy with ABS-bodied electrical components, machined finish. Sold as a single assembly.
