ZF 9HP48 948TE Transmission Filter and Oil Pan Gasket Kit

This is the pan-mounted filter service kit for the ZF 9HP48 (Chrysler/Fiat calls it the 948TE) nine-speed automatic. It fits a long list of transverse applications: 2014-2021 Jeep Cherokee (2.0L, 2.4L, 3.2L), 2015-2021 Jeep Renegade (1.3L, 2.4L), 2017-2021 Jeep Compass, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2017-2024 Chrysler Pacifica, 2020-2024 Chrysler Voyager, 2016-2023 Fiat 500X, 2015-2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport, 2014-2019 Range Rover Evoque, 2018-2021 Jaguar E-Pace, and 2015-2021 Ram ProMaster City. It replaces OEM part number 501217695 (0501-217-695).

The kit is built around the internal oil strainer that sits inside the pan and feeds the pump. On the 9HP that strainer is the whole story on filtration, and a clogged or collapsing strainer starves the pump and shows up as the failures these units are known for: harsh or delayed engagement into gear, a shudder in the low gears, hunting between ratios in traffic, and eventually clutch damage from low apply pressure. Swapping the strainer at a fluid service is cheap insurance on a transmission that is expensive to open.

On the bench the job is straightforward once the pan is off: drop the old strainer, clean the pan and magnet, seat the new strainer, and reinstall with the supplied pan gasket. The 9HP is a sealed unit with no dipstick, so you refill and set level by the fill plug at the correct fluid temperature. Note that on the Renegade and some Cherokee chassis the transmission has to be dropped or lowered to reach the pan, so plan bench time accordingly. Use the correct ZF-spec fluid (ZF LifeguardFluid 9 / Mopar 68225344 equivalent) on refill.
