A340E Transmission Master Rebuild Kit for 4Runner and Supra

This master kit is for the Toyota A340E and its four-wheel-drive version, the A340F. This four-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic sat behind the 4Runner, Supra and Cressida engines for years. Per the seller, fitment includes the 1989-2004 4Runner (2.4L, 2.7L, 3.0L, 3.4L and 4.0L), the 1988-1998 Supra 3.0L and the 1988-1992 Cressida.

The kit combines the overhaul set (seals, gaskets, sealing rings and rubber rings), a full friction kit and the steel plates. That covers the overdrive, forward, direct and second-coast packs in one order.

High-mileage A340s usually come in with a slipping overdrive, a flare on the 2-3 shift, or a delayed engagement when cold that gets better once warm. Those point to worn frictions and hardened seals. On the A340F, check the transfer case adapter seal while the unit is out, since a leak there is common and easy to miss.

Soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, check each pack clearance, and replace the overdrive and direct clutch piston seals with the new ones from the kit instead of reusing the originals. Also inspect the one-way clutches for rollback while the unit is apart.
