Castrol Transmax High Mileage is a multi-vehicle automatic transmission fluid built for import automatics that have rolled past 75,000 miles. One gallon, 128 fluid ounces, per jug. It carries extra seal conditioners and detergents on top of a friction package that meets JASO 1A, the Japanese ATF standard most Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Mazda step-shift automatics were certified against.

The reason to reach for the high-mileage grade instead of a standard multi-vehicle ATF is what age does to a unit. Past 75k the elastomer seals shrink and harden, and that shows up as a weeping pan gasket, a stain under the axle seals, or a slow morning shift that firms up once the fluid warms. The added seal conditioners swell those seals back toward spec, and the extra cleaning agents lift varnish and sludge off the valve body so a sticky shift valve frees up instead of hanging a gear.

It is a service-fill fluid for most Honda and Acura, Toyota and Lexus, Nissan and Infiniti, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Volvo and other imported automatics that call for a JASO 1A ATF. Confirm the OEM spec on the dipstick or in the owner's manual first: this is a fluid for conventional step-shift automatics and is not a CVT fluid, not a dual-clutch or DSG fluid, and not a substitute where the vehicle names a fill Castrol does not list.

A drain-and-fill through the dipstick tube or fill plug on a typical import automatic takes roughly 3 to 4 quarts. A pan-drop and filter service runs about the same, and a full fluid exchange is closer to 8 to 12 quarts depending on converter and cooler volume, which is where the gallon jug earns its keep on a high-mileage flush.
