Dana 80 Differential Carrier Bearing Kit 706070XR

This is the Motive Gear 706070XR differential carrier bearing kit. It fits Dana 80 and Dana 70 HD rear axles, plus the Ford 10.25 in. and 10.5 in. (Sterling) rear axles. The carrier bearings measure 2.25 in. inside diameter and 4.125 in. outside diameter. It replaces the earlier 706070X kit.

Why replace them: these axles carry towing and payload weight, and worn carrier bearings let the case move under load. You hear it as a growl from the rear that rises with speed, and you see it as backlash that changes as you rotate the ring gear. If a carrier bearing is left long enough to spin a race or break a cage, it can take out the ring and pinion with it. When you are doing a gear swap, a locker install or a full rear end rebuild, new carrier bearings go in as a matter of course.

On the bench: pull the old cones with a side bearing puller, keep the shim packs sorted by side, and press the new cones on with a driver against the inner race. Seat the races, set backlash and preload to spec, check the pattern with marking compound, and refill with the gear oil your axle calls for.
