Replaces the blank G56 PTO plate with a ported cover that raises the fill to 8 quarts on 2005-2010 Dodge Ram Cummins six-speeds.
Ported PTO cover for the G56 six-speed manual behind the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins. It bolts on in place of the blank steel PTO plate on the driver side of the case and gives you three openings: an inlet and an outlet sized for -8 AN cooler fittings, plus a 1/8 NPT port for a plug or a temperature sender. The fill opening on the cover sits higher than the factory fill plug, which is the whole point of the part.
The G56 leaves the factory filled to roughly four and a half quarts, and that level sits below the rear of the countershaft and mainshaft bearings when the truck is nose-up or under load. Techs who tear these down keep finding the same thing - dry, blued rear bearings and a chewed 5-6 synchro on trucks that never missed a fluid interval. Running this cover lets you fill to eight quarts measured to the bottom of the cover plug, so the rear bearings stay in oil. If you plumb the two -8 ports to a pump and cooler, you also get a real circulation loop instead of relying on splash.
Installation is straightforward on the bench or in the truck. Drain the transmission, pull the six factory PTO cover bolts, scrape the old gasket surface clean, and set the new cover on with a fresh gasket - the kit ships with the M10 x 1.5 x 25 socket head cap screws but no gasket, so order one with it. Use thread sealer on the 1/8 NPT plug. Fill through the cover until fluid reaches the bottom of the plug threads, roughly eight quarts of ATF+4.
Fits Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4000, 4500 and 5500 pickups from 2005 to 2010 equipped with the G56 six-speed. Owners have also fitted it to the earlier Getrag G360 with case trimming, but that is not a listed application.
