Bearing and seal overhaul kit for the Mercedes-built G56 six-speed manual behind 2005-2018 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Cummins trucks, replaces BK474.
This is the bearing, race, and seal set you pull out when you tear down a G56 six-speed manual for a full overhaul. The G56 is the Mercedes-designed transmission Dodge bolted behind the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins in Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks from 2005 through 2018, and it is the first thing to get noisy when the miles pile up. This kit replaces part number BK474 and drops straight into the factory case.
Inside the box are the input shaft bearing, mainshaft and countershaft bearings, their races, the front and rear output seals, and the small hardware needed to close the case back up. Every bearing and seal is sized to the original tolerances so the shafts seat with the correct endplay and the case halves line up without fighting them.
On the bench you press the worn bearings off the input, main, and counter shafts, drive out the old races, then install the new bearings and races, renew the front pocket bearing and the rear tailshaft seal, and reassemble with the supplied gaskets and seals. It cures the growl on deceleration, the whine in the lower gears, and the weep at the front bearing retainer that a high-mile G56 develops.
This is a bearing and seal kit, not a synchronizer kit. If your syncros are worn or you have a grind going into a gear, order the version with synchronizer rings instead. Set shim and preload specs per the factory service procedure during reassembly.
