GEARWRENCH GWSCOPE 1080p Inspection Borescope, 8.5mm Probe

A transmission that is slipping, banging, or dropping metal into the pan almost never shows you the problem from the outside. The GWSCOPE is the tool you reach for before you start pulling things apart: an 8.5mm semi-rigid probe on the end of a 1080p camera that you can feed through a drain plug hole, down a cooler line fitting, into a bellhousing inspection cover, or past a pulled pan to look at the valve body, filter neck, and case passages without dropping the unit.

The probe is semi-rigid, which is the part that matters on the bench. A limp cable goes wherever gravity sends it. This one holds the shape you bend into it, so you can push it around a corner and keep the lens pointed at what you want to see. Brightness on the tip lights is adjustable, so you can back the LEDs off when you are up close on a shiny converter hub or a wet valve body and the glare would wash the picture out. The probe is IP67 rated against fluid and dust and is rated to 194 degrees F, so ATF, coolant, and a warm case are not a problem.

It connects over USB Type-C to an Android phone or tablet, a computer, or a GEARWRENCH diagnostic tool for live video. There is no separate screen or battery to charge, which is why it costs a fraction of a handheld articulating scope. You can capture stills and video straight to the device, which is worth more than it sounds when you are documenting a burnt clutch pack or a scored drum for a customer who wants to know why the estimate is what it is.

Common shop uses: checking a torque converter for hub wear through the inspection cover, looking at the pan magnet and filter before you commit to a rebuild, tracing a leak to a case half or a cooler fitting, inspecting bores and valve body castings for scoring, and finding dropped hardware in a bellhousing. Note that this is a USB-C scope for Android and PC; it does not run on an iPhone without an adapter.
