Hantek 1008B 8-Channel Automotive Oscilloscope, USB PC Scope

The Hantek 1008B is a USB oscilloscope card that turns a Windows laptop into an eight-channel lab scope. All eight inputs sample at the same time, so you can watch a shift solenoid feed, the input speed sensor, the output speed sensor and a ground reference on one screen and see exactly which signal moved first. It runs on Windows 7, 8 and 10, draws its power over the USB cable, and ships with the automotive test library Hantek builds into the software - over 80 preset diagnostic setups covering sensors, ignition, bus lines, and starting and charging circuits. An eight-channel programmable signal generator is built into the same card for simulating a sensor when you need to prove out a circuit.

On the bench or in the car, the usual job is back-probing. Pierce or back-probe the pressure control solenoid feed at the case connector, put a second channel on the ISS and a third on the OSS, then drive it or load it on the lift. A scan tool data list updates once or twice a second and averages everything in between; the scope shows the actual PWM duty cycle ramping through the shift and shows a signal dropping out for a few milliseconds. That is the difference between guessing at a P0751 or P0756 solenoid performance code and seeing whether the command is clean and the solenoid is not answering, or the command itself is breaking up upstream.

It is also how you settle speed sensor complaints without pulling the unit. A chipped reluctor tooth, a loose sensor, or a chafed wire against the case shows as a collapsed or ragged waveform at one point per revolution, which no code will describe for you. Same for a converter clutch that shudders - you can record the TCC PWM signal over a long capture, save the waveform, and compare the commanded apply against what the line actually did.

Note that this is a PC-based scope card, not a standalone handheld. It needs a Windows laptop running the included software. The trade is screen size and storage: you get a full laptop display, long recordings saved to disk, and printable one-key diagnostic reports to hand a customer.
