Idemitsu ATF Type S Nissan Matic-J Transmission Fluid, 5 Qt

This is Idemitsu's Type S automatic transmission fluid, the same fluid chemistry Idemitsu supplies to Nissan on the assembly line, sold under Idemitsu's own label instead of the Nissan bottle. It carries the Matic-S, Matic-J and Matic-D specifications, so it covers Nissan and Infiniti geared automatics from the older Matic-D era right through the current Matic-S fill. Idemitsu part number 30040101-75000C020; the pack is five separate one-quart bottles, not a single jug.

Matic-J superseded Matic-D and Matic-S superseded Matic-J, and Nissan calls all three out across the RE4F03A, RE4F04A, RE4F04B, RE4R01A, RE5R05A and RE7R01A families depending on year. If the dipstick, fill plug tag or service manual asks for Nissan 999MP-MTS00P, 999MP-MTJ00P or 999MP-AA100P, this fluid replaces it. Cross-check the fill spec for your exact build before you pour rather than going by model year alone, because Nissan changed specifications mid-generation on several units.

On the bench or on a lift, five quarts is the right amount for a pan-drop-and-filter service on most of these transmissions: drop the pan, change the filter and pan gasket, refill through the dipstick tube, then set level with the engine running, the selector cycled through all positions, and the fluid at operating temperature. A full torque-converter exchange takes closer to nine or ten quarts, so buy two packs if you are flushing rather than dropping the pan.

Do not put this in a Nissan CVT. Jatco belt-and-pulley units take NS-1, NS-2 or NS-3 CVT fluid and will shudder and fail on conventional ATF. Type S is for the geared automatics only. Where it belongs, the anti-shudder additive package is what keeps the lockup converter from juddering at light throttle, and it is usually the first thing that goes as the original fill ages out.
