OTC 7020 Bench-Mount Transmission Holding Fixture

The OTC 7020 is a bench-mounted holding fixture: a rotating clamp head that bolts through your workbench and grips a transmission, a differential third member, or a small engine by its case bolt holes so the unit stays put while you work on it. It carries components up to 250 pounds and turns a full 360 degrees with positive stops every 90 degrees, so you can lock the case pan-down to pull the valve body, roll it a quarter turn to get at the side cover, and lock it again without the assembly trying to walk off the bench.

The two arms are 10-1/2 inches long with 9 inches between the mounting holes, and they open to a 22 inch maximum spread. That range covers the common GM, Ford and Chrysler cases people mount on a bench - TH350, TH400, 700-R4, 4L60E, 4L80E, C4, C6, A727 - as long as the case has two usable bolt bosses within that 22 inch spread. You supply grade-8 bolts to match the case threads; the fixture is the mount, not the bolt kit. Three sides of the mounted unit stay completely open, which is the practical difference between this and a two-post floor stand.

The problem it solves is the one every bench rebuild runs into: a transmission laid on its side on a bench moves every time you lean on a snap ring or break a bolt loose, and setting it on end to pull the pump means holding it with one hand. Bolted into a fixture the case does not move, both hands stay on the tool, and you can rotate the unit to drain, to check end play, and to reinstall the pan without lifting it again. Construction is high-strength steel; it mounts to the bench through the base plate, so plan on a solid top rather than a folding table.
