RE5R05A Transmission Master Rebuild Kit for Nissan

This is a full master overhaul kit for the Nissan RE5R05A, the Jatco-built five-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic (also cataloged as JR507E / JR509E) that sits behind the VQ and VK engines. It covers the frictions, steels, band, bushings, gaskets, seals and O-rings needed to take the unit apart and put it back together in one pass, instead of chasing individual seal kits partway through the job.

Fitment per the manufacturer covers Nissan Pathfinder, Xterra, Frontier, Titan and Armada, plus Infiniti EX35 2003-2011, FX45 2003-2008, G35 2003-2011 and Q45 2000-2007, and the Datsun-badged Armada 2004-2011, Caravan 2007-2010, Cima 2000-2008 and Elgrand 2000-2010. OEM reference is RE5R05A. Confirm the tag on the case before ordering -- the RE5R05A ran a long production life and the internals were revised, so match the year range above rather than going by the vehicle alone.

What sends these units to the bench: a 3-4 flare or a delayed 4-5, harsh or missing 1-2, and slipping under load once the direct and high clutch packs cook. Because the burnt friction material circulates, a clutch failure on an RE5R05A is not a clutch-only repair -- the debris gets into the valve body and the converter. Plan on flushing the cooler lines and either replacing or professionally cleaning the converter when you install this kit, or the same debris will chew through the fresh frictions.

On the bench: air-check every clutch circuit in the drum before the case goes back together, set the band adjustment to spec, and replace the pump and case bushings while the unit is split -- a worn front pump bushing is what walks the converter hub and kills the front seal a month after a rebuild. Prime the pump with fluid before the first start, then fill and level the transmission hot, at idle, in park.
