Full synthetic dual clutch fluid with the friction control a wet DCT needs to stop launch shudder; six quarts for a clutch pack service.
A dual clutch transmission runs its clutches in the same fluid that operates the hydraulics, so the friction characteristic of the fluid is not a detail - it is what decides whether the clutch engages smoothly or chatters off the line. This is Valvoline's full synthetic DCT fluid, built on synthetic base oils with an anti-shudder additive package and anti-wear chemistry for the gear train. It is the fluid to reach for on a unit that has developed a low-speed shudder or a harsh 1-2 after the original fill has cooked.
Dual clutch fluids are not interchangeable the way DEXRON VI covers a wide swath of conventional automatics. Ford DPS6, VW and Audi DSG wet and dry variants, Hyundai and Kia DCTs, and the Getrag units all have their own OE specifications, and some of them are genuinely incompatible. Look up the specification your unit calls for in the service information and confirm this fluid meets it before you fill. Do not use this in a conventional geared automatic and do not use it in a CVT.
Six quarts covers the typical drain-and-fill on a wet dual clutch. Fill through the fill plug on the case rather than a dipstick tube - most DCTs do not have one - and set the level by letting it run out the check plug with the unit at the temperature the manufacturer specifies. That temperature window matters more here than on an older automatic, because the fill level is set by a standpipe height and the fluid expands enough between cold and hot to put you a half quart off if you skip it.
