SAE J2534 pass-thru interface that lets factory OEM software flash and program engine and transmission control modules over OBD2 and DoIP.
The XTOOL XTS500 is an SAE J2534 pass-thru vehicle communication interface. It is the hardware link between a PC running a manufacturer's own diagnostic and programming software and the vehicle's OBD2 port, which is what you need when a job calls for dealer-level module programming rather than generic scan-tool functions.
This matters on the transmission side more every year. Replace a valve body, a mechatronic unit, a TCM or a solenoid body on a modern unit and the vehicle will often not shift correctly until the new module is flashed with the current calibration and the adaptives are reset through factory software. A J2534 box is how an independent shop does that without buying a separate dealer tool for every brand. The same interface handles engine, body and BCM programming on supported platforms.
It is a 12V and 24V interface, so it covers light-duty cars and trucks as well as 24-volt commercial equipment, and it supports DoIP for newer Ethernet-based platforms where plain CAN programming is no longer enough. XTOOL lists coverage across more than 18 manufacturers, including Ford, GM, BMW, VW, Honda and Toyota, through each brand's own software.
Read this part before you buy: the XTS500 is hardware only. OEM diagnostic and programming software is not included, and each manufacturer's subscription is purchased separately from that manufacturer. If you already hold OEM subscriptions, or you buy them per job, this is the interface that connects them to the car. If you want a standalone tool that diagnoses and runs bidirectional tests without a PC, you want a scan tool instead, not a pass-thru VCI.
