02S 6th Gear Puller Tool Kit for VW Audi Manual Gearbox

This is the five piece puller set that gets sixth gear and its synchro hub off the output shaft of the VW/Audi 02S six speed manual gearbox, and fifth gear off the 0A4 five speed. On both boxes the gear wheel and the hub are an interference fit on the shaft, so once the case is split there is no way to get them off with a generic two jaw puller without cocking the hub and marking the shaft. The set matches factory tools T10309/1, T10309/2, T10309/3, T10309/4A and T10309/5: a split collar that closes behind the gear, the outer clamp ring that holds it together, the spindle and the two thrust pieces that keep the pull square to the shaft.

Fitment is the transverse VAG manual gearboxes: 02S six speed and 0A4 five speed, which covers Audi A3 and TT, VW Beetle, Caddy, Eos, Golf, Jetta, Passat, Polo, Scirocco and Touran, Seat Altea, Leon and Toledo, and Skoda Fabia, Octavia, Superb and Yeti. Check the gearbox code stamped on the bellhousing, not the model year, because the same chassis was built with 02Q, 02S and 0A4 boxes depending on engine and market.

The job it is bought for is a worn fifth or sixth synchro, the box that jumps out of top gear on overrun, or an output shaft bearing swap. All of those require the top gear wheel and hub to come off first. Working on the bench, set the collar into the groove behind the gear, close the outer ring, run the spindle down against the shaft end and pull the gear and hub off together as an assembly. Because the pull stays centered, the synchro hub can be reused if it is still in spec instead of being wrecked on the way off.
