Pulling the pump support out of a GM automatic by hand is how bushings get scored and cases get gouged. This tool threads into the pump and lifts the whole support assembly straight up and out, keeping everything square. It is a direct replacement for the factory J-24773-A, and the SST-1055 / T-1055 numbers you will see in the rebuild manuals. Machined from steel, it covers a huge slice of the old GM lineup: the 200, 200C and 200-R4, the 250 and 250C, the 350 and 350C, the 375, the 400 and 3L80, the 425, the 3L80-HD, plus the 700-R4, 4L60 and early 4L60-E.
The second job is end play. After you reassemble the transmission, the same tool sets up to check output shaft end play so you know your selective washers landed in spec before the pan ever goes back on. Two notes worth respecting: it will not fit the late 4L60E pumps that use a smooth stator shaft, and to use it as an end play gauge you need the J-25022 or T-1068 adapter to attach it to the output shaft.
