42RLE Aluminum Transmission Pan Kit with Filter 265-818

This is an aluminum replacement oil pan kit for the Chrysler 42RLE 4-speed automatic. It replaces Mopar pan 52852912AA, 52852912AB and 52852912AC, and crosses to Dorman 265-818. The kit comes with the pan, a transmission filter, a pan gasket, a magnetic drain plug and 13 pan bolts, so you can do the whole service in one job.

Vehicles that used the 42RLE include the 2003-2012 Jeep Liberty 3.7L, the 2003-2006 Wrangler 4.0L and 2.4L, the 2007-2011 Wrangler 3.8L, the 2004-2010 Dodge Dakota 3.7L, the 2004-2009 Durango 3.7L, the 2007-2012 Nitro 3.7L, the 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider 3.7L, and 2.7L, 3.5L and some 5.7L versions of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Magnum and Challenger. Many of these vehicles were also built with the 45RFE or 545RFE, and the pans are not the same. Match the pan shape and the 13-bolt pattern with yours before you order.

The stock 42RLE pan is stamped steel with no drain plug. It rusts along the flange, and the gasket weeps after a few services. The 42RLE is also sensitive to fluid condition. Old or low ATF shows up as harsh 2-3 shifts, flare on the 3-4 shift, and limp mode codes. A drain plug makes regular fluid changes quick and clean. The magnet catches the fine wear material, so you can see it on the plug instead of letting it circulate through the solenoid pack.

To install it, drain the fluid, remove the old pan and pull the filter straight down. Clean the case flange so no old gasket material is left. Install the new filter with its seal, set the gasket on the new pan, and start all 13 bolts by hand. Snug them evenly in a crisscross pattern and do not overtighten, because the flange can distort. Refill with ATF+4 through the dipstick tube, run the engine through every gear, and check the level hot on the dipstick.
