Master overhaul kit for the Chrysler 42RLE four-speed with frictions, steels, filter, and a full gasket and seal set for Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Dakota.
This is a complete master rebuild kit for the 42RLE, the rear-wheel-drive four-speed automatic Chrysler ran behind the 2.4L, 3.5L, 3.7L, 3.8L and 4.0L engines from 2003 up. It carries the friction plates, steel plates, filter, band, and the full gasket and seal set you need to tear the unit down and put it back together in one box, instead of chasing individual part numbers.
Fitment covers Jeep Wrangler TJ and JK 2003-2011 (2.4L, 3.8L, 4.0L), Dodge Dakota 2004-2012 (3.7L), Dodge Nitro 2007-2012 (3.7L/4.0L), Dodge Challenger 2009-2010 (3.5L), Jeep Cherokee 2014-2015 (2.4L), and Mitsubishi Endeavor 2004-2011 (3.8L). The 42RLE is the electronically controlled version of the old A500/42RE, so it shares the same rear-drive layout and lockup converter but adds solenoid-pack shift control.
On the bench, this is what goes in during a standard overhaul: soak the new frictions in ATF, replace every steel and lined plate in the clutch packs, drop in the new filter, and reseal the pump, servo, accumulator and case with the supplied gaskets and rubber. Common reasons a 42RLE lands on the bench are slipping in the 2-3 shift, a burnt overdrive clutch, delayed engagement into gear when cold, and code P0871/P0888 pressure faults. A full clutch and seal refresh is what actually fixes those, rather than a fluid flush that only buys time.
This kit does not include hard parts (gears, drums, the pump body, or the solenoid pack). Inspect those during teardown and order separately if worn.
