On the 47RH, the valve body directs line and governor pressure to the clutch packs and bands and works with the electronic governor pressure solenoid and sensor to time every shift. Years of pressure cycling wear the aluminum valve bores, and that is what causes the classic 47RH complaints: shuttle shifting, harsh or soft 2-3 shifts, no reverse, delayed engagement, and governor-pressure related codes.
