48RE Transmission Straight Edge and End Play Gauge Bar Set

On the bench, the straight edge bridges the case or overdrive housing face while the gauge bar spans the gear train. With the shaft seated, you measure from the machined face down to the shaft or planetary shoulder and compare that reading against the selective spacer chart for your unit. That number is what tells you which snap ring or shim thickness to install. Guessing here is what produces a rebuild that comes back with a whine, a hard 1-2, or a stack that walks under load.
