4F27E Transmission Shift Solenoid and Filter Kit

This is the shift solenoid set and internal filter for the Ford/Mazda 4F27E four-speed automatic, the same unit Mazda calls the FN4A-EL. It replaces Ford XS4Z7A098AB and Mazda FN01-21-500. The solenoids mount to the valve body inside the pan and the filter snaps into the pump bore, so the whole job is done from underneath with the transmission in the car.

Fitment is Ford Focus 2010-2013, Ford Transit Connect 2000-2014, Mazda Protege 1999-2003, Mazda 3 2004-2010, Mazda 5 2006-2010 and Mazda 6 2003-2008, four-speed automatic only. Check the tag on the case before ordering if the car has been swapped - the later 6-speed FW6A-EL uses nothing from this kit.

On the bench the sequence is short: drop the pan, pull the old filter, unbolt the solenoid bracket, unplug each solenoid at the internal harness, and swap them one at a time so nothing gets crossed. Clean the pan magnet and the case mating surface before the new filter goes in, and prime the solenoid bores with clean ATF so the spools are not dry on first start.

These solenoids are what fails when a 4F27E starts flaring between gears, hangs in second, bangs the 1-2 shift, or throws P0750, P0755, P0751 or P0756. The screens inside the old solenoids load up with clutch material and the pressure control solenoid loses its ability to ramp line pressure, so shifts go either soft or harsh depending on which one quit. Replacing the filter at the same time keeps the same debris from choking the new set.
