About this product

This is a complete 4F27E valve body assembly, sold with the shift solenoids and the internal wiring harness already fitted, so you drop it in as one unit instead of robbing parts off the old body. The 4F27E is Ford's four-speed transaxle used in the Focus and Transit Connect; Mazda sells the same unit as the FN4A-EL in the Mazda 3, 5 and 6. Manufacturer part number is 4F27E.

Fitment covers Ford Focus 2005-2011 with the 2.0L and 2.3L Duratec four-speed, and Transit Connect 2010-2013 with the 2.0L Duratec. Because Ford and Mazda share the casting, it also crosses to FN4A-EL applications, but check your solenoid connector and separator plate against the photos before you order - the 4F27E went through mid-production changes and not every year is interchangeable.

The failures that put a 4F27E on the bench are almost always valve body related: delayed or flared 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, a slow engagement into drive after sitting overnight, torque converter shudder from a lazy TCC apply, or a hard code for a shift solenoid that keeps coming back after the solenoid has been replaced. Those come from worn solenoid bores, a scored separator plate, and cracked internal harness insulation - none of which a solenoid kit alone fixes. Replacing the whole body puts fresh bores, a fresh plate surface and a fresh harness in at one time.

On the bench: drop the pan and filter, unplug the case connector and pull the internal harness through the case, then remove the valve body bolts in the reverse of the torque sequence and lower the body straight down so the manual valve stays engaged with the detent lever. Transfer nothing - this unit ships complete. On install, line the manual valve up with the detent pin first, hand-start every bolt before you torque any of them, then torque in sequence to the factory spec for your year. Prime the pump and check line pressure before you road test.
