5035 Heavy-Duty Truck Clutch Adjustment Gauge Set

On a pull-type heavy-duty clutch, free play is not something you set by feel. Too much free play and the clutch never fully releases, so you grind gears and drag the clutch brake to a nub; too little and the release bearing rides the fingers constantly, cooking the bearing and burning the disc early. The factory spec is small and specific, and the only way to hit it repeatably is to measure it. This is the 5035 gauge set that does exactly that, matching the two-piece tool the OEM shops reach for at a fraction of the price.

The set is two solid, machined steel gauges. The 1/8-inch block sets clutch pedal free play, the gap between the release yoke and the release bearing wear pad. The 1/2-inch fork-style gauge checks release travel, the distance between the release bearing and the transmission bearing cap, so you know the bearing is moving the fingers far enough to fully release the disc. Both are rigid enough that they will not flex under hand pressure and throw your reading off, and the rubberized handles give you something to hold when everything under the truck is greasy.

Using them is straightforward bench-and-chassis work: back the clutch off, slip the 1/8-inch gauge between the yoke and wear pad and adjust until it just fits, then confirm release travel with the 1/2-inch gauge before you button up the inspection cover. It takes the guesswork out of setting an Eaton Fuller style clutch and gets you to factory free play the first time instead of crawling back under the rig to re-check by eye.
