TransGo 700-P separator plate that fits both Type 1 and Type 2 valve bodies on 1982-1993 700R4 and early non-electronic 4L60 transmissions.
This is the TransGo 700-P universal valve body separator plate for the GM 700R4 and the early hydraulic 4L60 (1982-1993). One plate works on both the Type 1 and Type 2 valve bodies and comes with two aluminum slugs. Interchange numbers include A74747, A74747U, 51995U, TG-700-P and TRG-700-P. It does not fit the electronic 4L60E.
700R4 separator plates changed several times during production, and the wrong plate is a common problem on a used valve body or a junkyard swap. A mismatched plate can block the line-bias circuit, so the transmission gets no line pressure rise with the TV cable and no forced downshift at wide open throttle. Low line pressure under load burns the 3-4 clutches.
Change the plate with the valve body on the bench. Pull the pan, filter, TV cable and valve body, lift off the old plate and gaskets and note where the checkballs sit. Place the checkballs, fit new valve body and case gaskets on each side of the 700-P plate, install the aluminum slugs as the TransGo instructions call out for your valve body type, and torque the valve body bolts in sequence. Set the TV cable before road testing.
