Overhaul, friction and steel plate kit for the Toyota A245E four-speed automatic in 1993-2008 Corolla 1.6L and 1.8L cars.
The A245E is Toyota's four-speed electronically controlled transaxle used behind the 4A-FE and 1ZZ-FE Corolla engines. This is the master set for a full teardown: the overhaul kit (case, pump and servo seals plus the paper and rubber gaskets), the complete friction plate set, and the matching steel plates. Everything that wears in a normal rebuild is in the box, so you are not stopping halfway through a build to order a single missing friction.
Fitment is Corolla 1.6L 1993-1997 and Corolla 1.8L 1993-2008. The A245E tag is stamped on the case near the bellhousing - check it before you order, because the same body years were also built with the three-speed A131L and with manual transaxles, and those parts do not interchange. This kit covers soft parts and clutch material only; drums, planetaries, the pump and the valve body are reused.
On the bench, soak the frictions in clean ATF for at least half an hour before they go in - dry paper glazes on the first apply and you will be back in the pan. Air-check each clutch pack as you stack it, set clutch clearance with the original selective plates and measure it rather than assuming, and replace the pump o-ring and the two case-half seals while the unit is split. Reuse of the old filter is a false economy on a unit this age; the pan usually comes apart full of clutch material.
The failure this fixes is the usual high-mileage A245E complaint: a soft or flaring 2-3 shift, delayed engagement into drive after the car sits, and burnt-smelling fluid from a direct clutch that has worn past its steel. Once the frictions are down to the backing, line pressure cannot hold the pack no matter how good the valve body is, and new clutch material is the only real repair.
