Complete overhaul kit for the Hyundai and Kia A4AF1 four-speed automatic: clutch frictions, steels, seals, gaskets, O-rings and washers.
The A4AF1 is the transverse four-speed automatic Hyundai and Kia used behind their 1.5L and 1.6L four-cylinders through the late nineties and 2000s, and it also turns up as the A4AF2, A4AF3 and Mitsubishi F4A32 depending on year and application. This is the master overhaul package for that case: the friction pack, steels, and the complete seal, gasket, sealing ring and O-ring set needed to close the unit back up after a full teardown. Cross references are A4AF1, A4AF2, A4AF3 and F4A32.
Fitment covers 2001-2011 Accent 1.6L, 1999-2003 Accent 1.5L, 2005-2010 Rio 1.6L, 2006-2011 Rio5 1.6L, 1999-2001 Tiburon 2.0L, 1999-2000 Elantra 2.0L, 1995-1999 Sephia 1.5L and 1.8L, 1995-1999 Sportage 2.0L, and 1992-1996 Mirage and Eclipse 1.5L and 2.0L. Confirm your unit against the tag before ordering, because these platforms were also sold with manual boxes and with the later A4CF1.
These units come in for slipping upshifts, a harsh or flaring 2-3, and delayed engagement when cold. The usual cause is a burnt friction pack plus hardened piston seals and case gaskets that no longer hold apply pressure, which is exactly what a master kit addresses. Once the unit is split, air-check each clutch drum before reassembly, replace every friction and steel as a set rather than mixing old plates in, and set clutch clearance with the selective snap ring so the pack is not left loose. Reuse of the old seals is the most common reason a fresh rebuild comes back with the same complaint.
Ships as a boxed kit at 8.8 lb. This is a rebuild-only package, so it does not include a torque converter, valve body or hard parts, all of which should be inspected separately during teardown.
